Sovol SV06 vs Creality Ender-3 V3 SE: the tinkerer's MK3 clone or the simple Ender

Both print 220 x 220 x 250 mm with a direct-drive extruder and automatic levelling. The Sovol SV06 copies the Prusa MK3 layout (planetary direct drive, all-metal hotend, inductive probe, open source) for about $250 at launch; the Ender-3 V3 SE launched at $199 with a Sprite extruder, CR Touch and a strain-gauge Z offset. The Ender is easier out of the box; the SV06 is the better platform to modify and keep.
The short version

Who should buy which

Both printers are in SpeakCAD's slicer catalog with their official OrcaSlicer profiles, so this page has no printer to sell you. The numbers in the table come from those profiles; the prices are the makers' launch prices, and prices moved in 2025 and differ by region.
1

Buy the SV06 if…

You want the MK3-style layout, an all-metal hotend and planetary drive, open-source firmware to tweak, and the SV06 ACE's Klipper if you buy the newer version. You do not mind a little setup.
2

Buy the Ender-3 V3 SE if…

You want the lowest price that prints well out of the box, an automatic Z offset, and the largest pool of printed upgrades on the internet.
3

Either way, the first custom part

Describe it with its measurements, check it on a virtual bed the size of the printer you chose, and download G-code for the SV06 or G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE, sliced with its official profile. The first render usually appears within a minute or two: a new part gets deeper reasoning through the geometry, and small edits land in seconds.

Same size, different heritage

The SV06 is a Prusa MK3 in shape and spirit: a Y axis on smooth rods, a planetary geared extruder, an all-metal hotend and an inductive probe, released as open source. The Ender-3 V3 SE is Creality's cleaned-up entry printer: a rail on the Y axis, the Sprite direct drive, CR Touch, dual Z screws and a knob screen.

Where the SV06 wins

  • Hotend and extruder: all-metal to 300 °C with a planetary gear; PETG and TPU are comfortable.
  • Open source: firmware and design files are published; the SV06 ACE moved to Klipper.
  • Layout: the MK3 form factor has years of documented mods that mostly carry over.

Where the Ender-3 V3 SE wins

  • Price: $199 against about $250 at launch.
  • Setup: the strain-gauge Z offset removes the usual first-layer tuning; the SV06's inductive probe needs a manual offset.
  • Stiffness: dual Z screws and a rail on the Y axis.
  • Community: the Ender name.

What both give up

No enclosure, no Wi-Fi, no camera, no input shaping (the base SV06 and the V3 SE alike), so both print at classic speeds and want an SD card or USB stick.

Prices

Launch prices above; both changed in 2025 and vary by region.

Verdict

The Ender-3 V3 SE is the better first printer; the SV06 is the better second one, or the first for someone who wants to learn the machine and change it. Neither is fast; both print functional parts well.

Sliced for either one

SpeakCAD ships the OrcaSlicer profiles of the Sovol SV06 and the Creality Ender-3 V3 SE, like 380+ other printers. Describe a part in plain English on a phone or a computer, watch it render on a virtual bed of the size above, change it by chat, and download G-code for the SV06 or G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE, with the print time and filament weight. The STL and 3MF are always there for your own slicer. The Sovol SV06 and Creality Ender-3 V3 SE pages have prompts sized for each bed and the library parts made for them.

Questions

In layout, yes: it borrows the MK3's bed, extruder and probe design and is open source itself. It is not a Prusa in build quality or support, which is what the price difference reflects.

The Ender-3 V3 SE: automatic levelling with a strain-gauge Z offset means the first layer is right without a screwdriver. The SV06 needs its Z offset set once and rewards owners who like adjusting things.

Neither has Wi-Fi. Both take an SD card or USB stick, which a phone can write with a small adapter; the guide on getting a file from a phone to the printer covers it.

Yes, both, with the OrcaSlicer profile each maker ships: G-code for the SV06 and G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE, or an STL or 3MF for your own slicer. The bed sizes in the table are the ones the viewer shows while you design.

Whichever you choose, the first part is a sentence away
