3D editor on your phone

A real 3D model editor that fits in your pocket

Most "3D apps" for phones are viewers or toys. SpeakCAD is the full editor: describe a part with the numbers you just measured, watch it render on a virtual print bed, change it by chat, and download the STL to your slicer. It runs in Safari and Chrome, so there is nothing to install and nothing that is missing compared to the desktop.
How it works

Measure, describe, check, download

The part that needs designing is rarely next to the computer. The phone is always next to the part. Three minutes from a tape measure to a file, standing where the problem is.
1

Open the editor in your phone's browser

Go to SpeakCAD in Safari on iPhone or iPad, or Chrome on Android. There is no app to install: the chat, the 3D engine and the viewer load inside the tab.
2

Describe the part with the measurements you took

Type what you need the way you would tell a friend: the size, what it holds or attaches to, how it closes. Fits and print rules are applied for you.
3

Check the render with your finger

Orbit and zoom on the virtual print bed, tap a face to read its size, and open the dimensions panel to see every number the model is built from.
4

Change one thing at a time

Say what is wrong in a sentence. The edit lands in seconds and the previous version shows as a ghost, so you can see exactly what moved. Edits are free and unlimited.
5

Download the STL or 3MF to your phone

The file lands in Files or Downloads. Share it to your slicer app, a shared folder or AirDrop it to the computer that runs the slicer.

Everything works on the phone

The same editor and the same 3D engine as on a desktop, laid out for a small screen and a thumb.
  • 1Generating a part from a description, with a live render in about twenty seconds.
  • 2Editing by chat: wider, taller, another hole, a different lid, text on the front.
  • 3Tapping a face to read a dimension and typing a number directly in the dimensions panel.
  • 4Photographing a part next to a ruler to copy it, using the phone camera.
  • 5Uploading an STL, 3MF or .scad file from Files or Downloads and having it rebuilt as an editable model.
  • 6Undo, project history and the ghost of the previous version.
  • 7Downloading STL, 3MF or the OpenSCAD source.
  • 8Opening the same project later on a desktop with all its history.

Where a big screen is still nicer

Nothing is locked to the desktop. These are simply more comfortable on one, and the project opens there with all its history.
Comparing several variants side by side on one screen.
Reading the OpenSCAD source at length or editing it by hand.
Arranging many parts on a bed, which is a slicer job anyway.
Why almost no mobile 3D builders exist: drawing geometry needs a mouse or a stylus and a large screen. SpeakCAD does not draw; it describes. The geometry is written as a parametric program by the AI and compiled in the browser, so the interface a phone needs is a text box and a viewer, and both fit.

What it costs on a phone

Generating, previewing and editing are free, with no card and no limit. Downloading a finished file costs 10 credits: Maker is $3.99 a month for 100 credits, Pro $7.99 for 200. A small fix after a test print re-downloads free, which matters more on a phone, where the fix is typed at the printer thirty seconds after the part comes off the bed.

Questions

There is no app to install, and none is needed. SpeakCAD runs in the phone's browser: Safari on iPhone and iPad, Chrome on Android. Add it to your home screen if you want an icon. The 3D engine runs inside the browser tab, so nothing is uploaded to render a model.

No. It is the same editor, the same AI and the same 3D engine as on desktop. The layout adapts to the screen: the chat and the viewer stack, the dimensions panel folds away until you need it, and the viewer responds to touch.

Yes. A functional part such as a phone stand, a bracket, an organizer or an enclosure takes about three minutes from typing the description to a downloaded STL, including an edit and a dimension check. The output is a watertight mesh that goes straight into a slicer.

The download lands in Files (iPhone) or Downloads (Android). From there, share it to a slicer app that accepts 3MF files, save it to a shared folder the slicer computer can see, or AirDrop or Nearby Share it to that computer. The guide on getting files from a phone to a slicer covers each route.

Yes, and the larger screen shows the chat and the viewer side by side. No stylus is needed because the geometry is described, not drawn.

The same as on desktop. Generating, previewing and editing are free with no card. A download costs 10 credits: Maker is $3.99 a month for 100 credits, Pro $7.99 for 200. Small fixes after a download re-download free.

Current Safari on iOS and iPadOS, and current Chrome on Android. Firefox and Edge on Android also work. The browser needs WebAssembly and WebGL, which every phone from the last several years has.
