Creality Ender-3 V3 SE vs Bambu Lab A1 mini: $199 or $299 for a first printer

The Ender-3 V3 SE gives you a 220 x 220 x 250 mm bed for $199 at launch, with direct drive and auto levelling but no Wi-Fi, camera or input shaping. The Bambu Lab A1 mini gives you a smaller 180 mm bed for $299 at launch, with self-calibration, input shaping, a camera, Wi-Fi, quick hotend swaps and the AMS lite option. For a first printer the A1 mini is the easier, faster, quieter machine; the Ender is the one to buy if 220 mm or the lowest price decides.
The short version

Who should buy which

Both printers are in SpeakCAD's slicer catalog with their official OrcaSlicer profiles, so this page has no printer to sell you. The numbers in the table come from those profiles; the prices are the makers' launch prices, and prices moved in 2025 and differ by region.
1

Buy the Ender-3 V3 SE if…

You need the bigger bed or the lowest price, you are fine with an SD card, and you like the idea of a printer with the largest upgrade community around it.
2

Buy the A1 mini if…

You want a printer that sets itself up and stays calibrated, prints fast and quietly, shows you the print on your phone, and can grow into four-colour printing. Your parts fit 180 mm.
3

Either way, the first custom part

Describe it with its measurements, check it on a virtual bed the size of the printer you chose, and download G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE or a sliced .gcode.3mf for the A1 mini, sliced with its official profile. The first render usually appears within a minute or two: a new part gets deeper reasoning through the geometry, and small edits land in seconds.

What $100 buys

The two printers are a generation apart. The Ender-3 V3 SE is a classic Marlin bed slinger, well built for its price. The A1 mini is a modern printer in a small body: it measures its own flow and vibration, swaps hotends without tools, streams a camera to the Handy app and takes the AMS lite.

Where the A1 mini wins

  • Setup: calibration is automatic; the first print is usually right.
  • Speed and finish: input shaping and flow calibration produce clean walls at speeds the Ender cannot reach.
  • Quiet: one of the quietest printers on sale.
  • Colour: the AMS lite adds four spools.
  • Network: Wi-Fi, the Handy app and a camera. A sliced file from a phone still goes to the microSD card or through Bambu Studio.
  • Hotends: 0.2 to 0.8 mm nozzles swap as complete hotends in a minute.

Where the Ender-3 V3 SE wins

  • Bed: 220 x 220 x 250 mm against a 180 mm cube.
  • Price: $199 against $299 at launch.
  • Openness: Marlin, any slicer, no account, and a huge community of printed upgrades.

What both give up

Neither is enclosed. Neither takes a file from a phone browser directly: the Ender needs an SD card, the A1 mini the microSD card or a computer.

Verdict

Buy the A1 mini as a first printer unless you know you need 220 mm. It removes most of the reasons first printers gather dust. The Ender-3 V3 SE is the right choice when the budget stops at $200 or the bed size is the point.

Sliced for either one

SpeakCAD ships the OrcaSlicer profiles of the Creality Ender-3 V3 SE and the Bambu Lab A1 mini, like 380+ other printers. Describe a part in plain English on a phone or a computer, watch it render on a virtual bed of the size above, change it by chat, and download G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE or a sliced .gcode.3mf for the A1 mini, with the print time and filament weight. The STL and 3MF are always there for your own slicer. The Creality Ender-3 V3 SE and Bambu Lab A1 mini pages have prompts sized for each bed and the library parts made for them.

Questions

Not for most functional parts: cases, stands, brackets, knobs and small organizers fit. Wide trays need splitting in two. The bed-size guide on this site lists real part sizes.

Less than older Enders: auto levelling and the strain-gauge Z offset remove the classic first-layer fight. It still has no input shaping, so it prints at classic speeds, and upgrades are a hobby in themselves.

The A1 mini by a clear margin. The Ender is not loud at its own speeds, but the A1 mini's light bed and tuned motion make it the quieter machine in the same room.

Yes, both, with the OrcaSlicer profile each maker ships: G-code for the Ender-3 V3 SE and a sliced .gcode.3mf for the A1 mini, or an STL or 3MF for your own slicer. The bed sizes in the table are the ones the viewer shows while you design.

Whichever you choose, the first part is a sentence away

Describe the part with its measurements, check it on the Ender-3 V3 SE's or the A1 mini's bed, and download it sliced.
