A 1 kg spool of PLA or PETG costs $15 to $25. A typical functional part (a bracket, a knob, a small enclosure) weighs 15 to 60 g, so $0.30 to $1.50 of plastic. Even a large organizer rarely passes $4.
Electricity
A desktop FDM printer draws 60 to 150 W while printing. A three-hour print is roughly 0.3 kWh, or a few cents at residential rates.
Printer wear
Nozzles, belts, bed sheets and the occasional hotend. Spread over the life of a $300 to $1,000 machine, most people land around $0.10 to $0.30 per print hour.
The hidden cost: design time
This is where the numbers stop being cents.
