# SpeakCAD vs Meshy: engineering parts or game assets

> Meshy generates textured organic meshes for games and art. SpeakCAD generates precise, parametric, watertight CAD parts for 3D printing. Compare outputs, precision and workflow.

Both take a text prompt and return a 3D model, and that is where the similarity ends. Meshy is a generative mesh model: it imagines a shape and paints textures on it, which is ideal for characters, props and scenes. SpeakCAD is a CAD engine: it computes exact geometry from your dimensions, which is what a functional 3D print needs.

| | SpeakCAD | Meshy |
|---|---|---|
| Install | None: runs entirely in the browser | None: browser-based |
| On a phone | Full editor, edit and download from the phone | Generates from a phone browser; no dimensioned editing |
| Output geometry | Exact CSG solids, dimensions honoured | Sculpted organic meshes, approximate scale |
| Watertight for printing | Always (manifold by construction) | Varies by model: check it in the slicer (Meshy offers an STL repair tool) |
| Dimensions | Millimetre-exact from your prompt | Scaled afterwards |
| Editing | Chat edits of specific features | Regenerate, re-prompt or remesh; no dimension-level edits |
| Textures/PBR | No | Yes |
| Best for | Brackets, enclosures, replacement parts | Game assets, figurines, concept art |
| Formats | STL, 3MF, G-code sliced for your printer | GLB, FBX, OBJ, USDZ, STL, 3MF, BLEND |
| Test the fit before a long print | Fit Check: free 5-minute test slice of the fit, then your printer's calibration is applied to every model | No: meshes have no editable clearances |
| Pricing | Maker $7.99/mo (50 credits); Pro $14.99/mo; Unlimited $79.99/mo | Free plan with 100 credits a month; Pro $20/mo for 1,000 credits (check their site) |

## Imagined vs computed

Ask Meshy for "a phone stand" and you get a phone-stand-looking object with a texture. Ask SpeakCAD and you get a stand whose cradle is exactly 78 mm wide with a 60° back and a 12 mm cable slot, because you said so. Generative mesh models are not designed to respect measurements; CAD engines are.

## Printability

SpeakCAD parts come out of solid booleans, so they are closed and manifold. A generated mesh can have holes, self-intersections or paper-thin regions that need a repair pass before slicing, and its wall thickness is not something you set.

## Where Meshy is better

Anything artistic: a dragon figurine, a stylised prop, a textured asset for Unity or Blender. It also has a free plan that generates your own models every month, and multicolour 3MF for Bambu Lab printers. SpeakCAD cannot do organic sculpting and does not try to.

## Verdict

Meshy for art and game assets; SpeakCAD for parts that must fit something. If a ruler is involved, SpeakCAD.

## About SpeakCAD

SpeakCAD is the most intuitive CAD for 3D printing, made for people who own a 3D printer and need a part that fits something they have: tap a face and type a size to shape it with simple tools, or describe it to the AI, on your phone or computer, and download a print-ready STL, 3MF or G-code sliced for your printer.

SpeakCAD works inside ChatGPT and Claude as a plugin (an MCP server): ask the assistant for a part with its measurements and SpeakCAD's own CAD AI designs it, shows it in 3D in the chat and hands over a print-ready STL, 3MF or G-code sliced for your printer.
